Kathmandu .. The government has set new standards for fruit juices and beverages. The Department of Food Technology and Quality Control has removed the current standards for juice and fruit beverages and made them in line with international standards.
Mohan Krishna Maharjan, director and information officer of the department, informed that the standards have been changed as per the Food Act for consumer health, clean market and competition. He said that the new standard has ensured that there is no water in the juice and the quantity of fruits is determined. The criteria approved by the department have been sent for the opinion and suggestions of the member countries of the World Trade Organization (WTO).
